Cool Hand Luke

Recall the past is a favorite pastime of many. witticism intended. 8 o’clock March 5th one of the favorite movies from 1967 was playing on TCM. This was none other than Cool Hand Luke.

Condition you got to see Cool Hand Luke when it first came out then you probably got to get even more enjoyment out of it than the people that are getting to see it for the first time in this day and age. The classic 1967 movie is about a free spirited convict who would not conform to the life of a sequence gang. This makes me think of a couple of other movies that were made later. Cool Hand Luke could have been an inspiration for those other movies don’t you think?

The movie is not anything at all what we want these days however. The end of the movie is very sad and who wants to see a movie that is going to end badly? Sure it may be a twist from what we see now but if I wanted to see sad I could look around at the everyday life of most people. At least Cool Hand Luke died in a church trying to find God.

The Holy Spirit, Jesus And Social Justice In Black Churches: Making Noise Or Making A Difference?

In a 1999 essay titled "A Good Time or a Good Life? The Black Church in the Twenty-First Century," I attempted to chart the opportunities and obstacles facing black churches on the eve of the new millennium. An extensive quotation from the essay revealed my concern for the need of social justice engagement in many churches:

"Within urban and suburban America, the up-and-coming movement is the 'mega' black church with state-of-the-art classrooms, administrative offices, dinner facilities, and gymnasiums. Many of these 'mega' churches have enough members to populate a small city. ... Many factors contribute to this groundswell of membership ... but, most of all; it is the rebirth of a more charismatic style of worship in the black church that has motivated much of this interest. It is the vibrant, exciting worship of the African-American tradition that is drawing people. ... Yet I am concerned that congregations cultivate spiritual lives, and not simply provide energizing worship.

Latest Title Most Meaningful, But Strikeforce's Henderson Still Open To Middleweight

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite a 5-1 run in his past six fights, 40-year-old Dan Henderson had his doubts.

He wondered if he'd still be able to compete with the upper level of the light-heavyweight division and prove his relevancy in the sport.

With a crushing third-round knockout of champ Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante (10-3 MMA, 3-2 SF) at Saturday's "Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson" event, new champ Henderson (27-8 MMA, 2-1 SF) got his answer.

"It's been a while since I won a new belt, and this one definitely probably means the most to me because I'm 40 years old, and inside, I felt like I could still compete with the top guys," said Henderson, who fight in the Showtime-televised main card at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. "That's something I needed to prove to myself tonight. And I think I accomplished that for myself and hopefully the fans too."

Henderson, an early-UFC tournament winner and two-division PRIDE champion, famously divide ties with the UFC in 2009 on the heels of a three-fight win streak. But unable to come to terms on a new deal, he then signed with Strikeforce.

Since then, he's become one of the organization's biggest stars, and he was the clear fan favorite at Saturday's event.

Much of that admiration comes from Henderson's willingness to fight in two divisions, often against better guys. While most fighters go up in weight and stay there once they enter their twilight years, Henderson continually bounces. As with the UFC, he's competed in both Strikeforce's middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions.

Gaddafi’s Media Strategy Backfires

Libya has never been a cozy spot for nonnative journalists. A media disallow aloof reporters inaccurate as the commotion against strongman Muammar Gaddafi began on Feb. 17, and officials of the Gaddafi regime damned journalists travel opposition-controlled areas sunset hebdomad as "outlaws" and al-Qaeda sympathizers.

Such hardball tactics, along with garbled speeches aired on African nation telecasting, port't helped Gaddafi in the room of overt message. So the program is now trying to egest its framing tho' the occidental media, claiming the authorities hasn't savagely cracked downwardly on protesters (which it has) and that Gaddafi is unwaveringly in interact of the North most Someone region (which he isn't).
